Accidental Rationalist
john soanes is refered to as the accidental romantic due to his drive towards a singular personal vision which was at odds with the rational regularised classical architecture of his day.we spend a large part of our adult lives trying to suppress intuition and deal with life as grown up rationalists. i am now calling a truce. The problem is that dealing with a rational mind is a bit like negotiations between a man in a 2d world and a man in a 11d world (intuition). I do however like making order from chaos (postman pat jigsaw) so that qualifies me as an accidental rationalist. Its fading now so must stop.

The battle of San Romano
Hi guys... Vessel heer. I've added some new paintings to my gallery. these began life as therapy but have become the definitive externalisation of my personal perceptual experience, eflecting my current obsession with the battle of San Romano painted by Paulo Uccello. Its a tryptich and the best panel by far is the one in the national gallery (london). The battle is between Florence (rational intellect based progress) and Sienna (intuition ambiguity inspiration). Florence is winning the battle but its odd how much the footbal pundits keep refering to it being an intuitive sport these days. just for the record intuition is not the dumb airy fairy entity rationalists would have us believe. intuition is the glamour job rationalists just make the sums add up. there I've said it. oh and I am an accidental rationalist.

Tourism

I am suprised that thus far I have failed to credit Patrick Caulfield as being an influence on this blog - perhaps because I hadn't noticed yet. I love the way he manages to convince you of the detail in the shadows. In the case of the photos it really is there... perhaps not as richly as the part in Blade runner when they start finding all sorts of information froma blurry snap.

I have to admit...

if ever, by magic, my teabagtossing is transferred to the web - over here in Belgium it's almost impossible to find the simple tea bags like you have in England - they all have strings - which makes it somewhat easier...
